Last spring I went to a conference that included a speaker from South Korea, speaking about North Korea, its government, conditions and lack of freedom. Specifically this speaker was trying to describe to a bunch of Americans what Christian faith looks like in this totalitarian society with its own history, culture and traditions.
At the time I didn’t know that much about North Korea, and I was shocked to hear how eerily similar the situation is to novels like 1984 or Brave New World. This really exists! I’m used to hearing about dictators ruling through fear tactics and brutality, but the Kim family’s power has also included a forced isolation from the rest of the world, as well as state-led brainwashing.
A friend of mine recently shared this video from PBS on Facebook. Watch it!
As a daughter of God, accepted into his family with rights
and an inheritance, I pray and intercede for the nation of North Korea and its
people. Father I ask that the manipulation, propaganda and brain-washing will begin
to crumble. I ask that you rise up healthy leaders in the country who are wise
and able to move North Korea from its current state to one that is safe, free
and productive. Father I ask that a midst transition that somehow you protect this part
of the world from war. Father I ask that your peace is with the people who are
realizing and will realize that almost everything they knew and believed was a lie.
